East Sussex Seaside Town Welcomes New Electric Vehicles

November 30, 2009 by admin

Brighton have recently made a statement revealing that they will soon be installing 20 roadside charging stations for use with electric vehicles. This is part of a big scheme to try and enable Brighton to be more of a Zero-emission city.

It is worth considering that maybe some people who own electric vehicles think they are bigger and better than the rest of us? If you watched an old episode of South Park it would maybe seem so. Many of the people in South Park bought a electric car and found that they all started to think very highly of themselves and better than the people without the car.

Of course this was all nonsense and was just put there to upset the people of Chicago (where most of the episode was based) as well as everyone who owns one of the electric cars.

Is the answer to all the pollution in the world actually in these cars or maybe it can cause more hassle than good? As power stations are unable to shut down overnight, currently there is a lot of unused electricity, so without building anymore stations, we could power millions of electric vehicles with no additional impact on the environment. If we consider that we may have to build more power plants, they would hopefully be cleaner plants. It also works out that the price per mile is a lot more economical for an electric vehicle than it is for gas vehicle. The bottom line is the efficiency of the cars, a gasoline car is 25% efficient, whereas electric is around 95%, so travelling a mile on gas costs around 15 cents, whereas electric costs a penny.

So if you are about to buy an Audi or buy a new Mercedes you should hold off and wait until an electric car comes your way. Whether it is used cars there is sure to be an eventual upgrade for a car to help take down your C02 emissions.

Replacement window reviews focus on a number of aspects and in this one the emphasis is going to be on brands, companies, price, service delivery, quality to mention just a few. So whatever kind of data you may be looking for this review will most likely be helpful to you. So just readit right to the end.

I would also suggest that you look up any of the following: window replacement contractors minneapolis, vinyl replacement windows company, best replacement window companies in phoenix

Replacement window brands review

There are a number of companies – in fact there are 500+ that I know of located around the country. With that I have only selected a few that I believe to be outstanding for one reason or the other.

Pella

Their wood vinyl line is one of the best
· They have quick turn around time
· They’ve been around in the industry and country longer than the others
· They tend to be too pricey than most

2. Anderson

· They manufacture genuine clear coated glass
· They are also higher priced

Schuco

· They make good energy efficient windows
· They deliver quality workmanship

· Offer state of the art material and features

Besides these there are lots more replacement window reviews I can share on other brands and companies but these should be enough for now. Now let us go back to the price issue. I will also mention quality and service delivery issues here as well.

Replacement window price review

There are a number of determinants that affect price and below I talk about a few:

· The concept of supply and demand: if less people want more replacement windows that the manufacturers are able to supply then the price will shoot up. It is therefore essentiall to bear in mind the season that you choose to buy.

· The efficiency of the windows in terms of energy
· The after sales service offered by the company. Yes! They do factor that in their price. The more augmented services they supply the more expensive the windows are likely to cost.
· Where you are staying: Being situated further from the manufacturer and supplier the most expensive it is likely to be due to transport costs.

Best Repairs For Aluminium Storm Windows

Are you interested in an aluminium storm window repair? Well here is a brief but useful article that will give you a review and a step-by-step guide to how you can go about doing this.

Some of the topics I have previously written about on this series include: tax credit for replacement windows 2009, what’s the best replacement window and best window replacement companies and today I will expand on this briefly.

There are lots of ways in which you can do an aluminium storm window repair. I will provide you with what has worked for me and others. I have talked but of course you can get more ideas from other experts. I recommend you read the article to the end before deciding on anything.

The reason why I point out the differing opinions is because I know that not all windows get damaged the same way hence not all the repairing information will be the same. For example some may have broken glazing, scratches or cracks and some might have problems with the sash, which causes them to have some sliding problems.

Here are some few steps you can think about for your aluminium storm window repair.

they might be scratched, cracked or do they have broken glazing? In this case in order to fix the aluminium storm windows you might have to remove the storm sash or the screen. Then remove the glazing, which is usually glass or acrylic plastic.

You may find that the corners are fastened by metal keys in this case you might have to remove the screws to take out some of the corners – one or maybe two. If you find that they are crimped then an awl could be used to extract the vinyl splints that are used to secure the glazing.

Once you have done all that you can then fit the new glazing (2mm). Just confirm that you make it smaller than the inside frame dimension in order to enable some expansion and contraction. Just put the glazing vinyl on the glass and then fit it into the frame. Then put together the corers. when you are dealing with crimps frames simply lay the glass in the frame and just press the vinyl weather seal so that it locks in to the joint between the frame and glass.

There are several ways in which people are addressing environmental issues. One of them involves the use of clean energy such as wind power for the production of electricity. The many advantages of wind power make it the number one source of alternative energy worldwide and its popularity is only growing, among individuals and industries alike.

In this scientifically driven world we are living in, electricity is extremely vital. It represents a luxury that brings forth comfort and prosperity and that simplifies our lives greatly. Many scientific and industrial advances are also directly related to it. Really, at the end of the day with no electricity we would all be in the dark. Unfortunately harmful emissions are released with the current conventional methods used today to produce electricity, unfortunately also contributing to global warming. Making wind power your choice for generating electricity would without doubt be a great method to use with wind power being 100% eco-friendly.

Additional Wind Power Advantages

•    A major advantage of wind power is the fact that wind is free and accessible to everyone. As a result, this explains why generating energy through wind power has become one of the most cost efficient methods.

•    Wind Power also signifies a renewable source of energy. In no way could you ever run out of wind power.

•    Farmers also benefit greatly from wind power, Usually farm lands or rural properties are the best place to install the larger wind turbines. Therefore farmers can make extra money by renting out spaces for wind turbines, which don’t cause any disruptions to their normal activities.

•    Wind power is very clean because wind is its only fuel. This is truly incredible, in comparison to coal-fed power plants which give off harmful gases.

•    Wind power can be harnessed individually by home owners and can meet all of their specific electricity requirements. Wind turbines require minimal maintenance and are easy to handle.

Off-Grid Solar Electric System Explained

November 29, 2009 by admin

Do you dream of being energy-independent? Then living “off-grid” might be ideal for you. Most of those who live off grid are in remote locations where electric utility service is either not available or very expensive to connect. But a growing number of people are looking at it as a personal lifestyle option.

The Domestic Off-Grid Solar Power Update

There are a couple of important factors involved in living off-grid. First, you’ll need to learn how to use your electricity judiciously.  You won’t have to do without it, but you don’t want to waste it, either.

It’s also important that you become familiar with your solar power system – how it works and what type of maintenence is required. It would be best if you become an expert on your particular system, so you can troubleshoot anything unexpected that comes up. Becoming an expert won’t be too difficult considering the large amount of available information on solar energy. However, it does require some time commitment on your part.

Typically, an off-grid system is made up of nine components

1. The photovoltaic array and mounting rack. Wikipedia describes the array as “a linked collection of photovoltaic modules, which are in turn made of multiple interconnected solar cells”. The mounting rack allows you to attach them the roof and point them toward the sun.

2. The array DC (direct current) disconnect. This acts as a “breaker” between the system and the array and allows you to disconnect the system to do troubleshooting or fix problems.

Third, the charge controller prevents the batteries from overcharging.

Fourth, the battery bank stores excess electricity. You will usually need sufficient batteries for 2-3 days worth of stored electricity in case of an overcast period.

Fifth, the system meter is like your car’s dashboard. It shows how the various components in your system are doing.

An Article on Off-Grid Solar Energy

6. The main DC disconnect. You will know this better as a breaker which is placed between the batteries and the inverter.

7. The inverter. This component converts the DC electricity that was generated by the solar cells into the AC (alternating current) electricity that powers your household appliances.

8. The breaker panel. This is the same kind of breaker panel that the electric company uses to connect your house wiring to its electrical source.

Ninth, your backup generator. A backup generator may become necessary if there is a stretch of cloudy days and you have used up the power that was stored in the batteries. Conventional fossil fuels can be used for your generator; however, if you’re maintaining a green lifestyle, you will want to use biodiesel.

Now that you’ve seen the components of the photovoltaic system, you can see why it’s not that complicated to become your own expert. Each component is pretty simple in and of itself. The only motorized parts are in the backup generator, and you hopefully won’t be using that very much.

Information On Wind Power

It is now possible to generate electricity from the wind? This is a rather informative article methods to provide electricity to your home using wind energy.

My discussion will revolve around the following subjects: build my own solar power system, practical photovoltaics from solar cells or rather a review on how to Generate Your Own Power.

You have heard that you can create electricity from the wind and you are asking your self; how exactly does wind power work. It’s a good idea to want to know how something functions before deciding to purchase it. This information is all provided in the paragraphs that follow.

Electricity from wind is generated using a scientific principle based on magnetism. Ever notice how you can attract the opposite ends of a magnet together. Well if you can have something repeatedly interfering with the force between the poles of a magnet you can create electricity.

So in trying to understand how exactly does wind power work I would provide the following answer. The larger the magnet and the faster you can cut the force between the poles the higher the power that you cangenerate. That’s why you will have wind turbines of differing sizes. The larger ones are able to generate more electricity. The only disadvantage is they will have a higher cut in speed. This is because wind power is is relied on a supplementary source of power.

So the wind power system is usually linked to the national grid; and only when the turbine speed attains a particular speed will it kick in take over. For as long as the wind is above that value it will generate electricity for you. extra electricity that you generate can be stored in batteries for later use.

So if you are viewing this as a possible choice then you must be in an area where the wind speeds are usually above 10miles per hr. It’s only at this speed that you will make efficient savings and get a sizeable output from your wind system. These are just a few of the things you may need to know about how exactly does wind power work.

How Does Wind Power Work

For hundreds of years, the world has depended on the use of wind energy. It has been used for various tasks such as the sailing of ships, grain grinding and water pumping.

For some more great articles regarding wind power generators and how they work. see: Wind Power Generators

In modern times, wind energy is applied in activities of recreation such as windsurfing as well as the industrial creation of electrical power. That’s right; an increasing number of people worldwide are beginning to harness the wind’s energy in order to power their homes and businesses. The beneficial use of wind energy has also been started by many industries. So let’s take a look at how wind power works.

The motion of the wind results in the creation of kinetic energy. The kinetic energy thus released can be converted to electrical energy. Wind patterns are widely influenced by the actions of the sun which represents another source of clean power. Wind is caused in part by the sun’s irregular heating of the atmosphere, the spinning of the earth, and the uneven surfaces of the earth . Example of factors that influence the wind are water bodies, the earth terrain and vegetation. When electricity is created from the motion of the wind, it is referred to as “Wind power”. Wind turbines, wind energy converters, and generators are employed for this exact purpose. Historically, the earlier models were simply known as windmills.

The process behind the working of wind power turbine is more or less the reverse of that which can be found with the working of a fan. While a fan converts electrical energy to wind energy, a wind turbine employs the use of wind energy to convert electrical power.

Wind Power Systems

Understanding how  wind power systems operate is the only point that you need to be clear on, in order to understand how wind power works in general . The following gives insight to how a wind turbine is found to operate.

Shaped like a propeller, turbines are normally constructed with two or three blades. The motion of air over the blades causes them to begin to spin.

Their rotation is transmitted to a shaft which is connected to them. There are two kinds of shafts which can be used—those of the high speed variant and those of the low speed. The shaft is connected to the power generator, which in turn generates electrical power.

Click here to check out some awesome articles especially for those people exploring the possibilities of generating their own energy to power their homes. Take a look at: Using Wind Power At Home

A controller is used to start and to shut off the machine. For scenarios where the wind conditions are too strong a brake prevents the machine from damaging itself.

As you see, the basics behind how wind power works are quite simple.

By far the most popular options in the wind turbine industry are the horizontal axis turbines and the vertical axis turbines. Widely considered as the most common, the horizontal axis turbine is made up of three blades which face towards the wind. On the other hand, the virtual axis is shaped like an egg beater and can be pointed in any number of directions.

The size of a wind turbine partially determines how much electricity it will be able to produce. But of even more importance of the size of the wind turbine is the required availability of wind. This is why wind energy is sometimes combined with a solar system. Very little beats the merger of solar and wind engine when it comes topower efficiency.

Currently, residential areas are found to contain small wind systems which boasts power levels that are rarely above 50kw. They are also used for the backing up of local supplementary power. Wind power systems are capable of reducing household power needs by as much as 50 or 90 percent.

In the event that commercial wind turbines are linked to the central lines, they can very easily supply power to the local grid. These installations are also referred to as wind farms or wind power plants. Countries like Spain and Denmark already are equipped with such farms which are used in the powering of neighbouring towns. The possibility of wind power application  is also being studied by countries like Brazil, South Africa and the US.

Home Wind Energy – The Cheap Energy Saving Solution

November 27, 2009 by admin

With many contraptions and inventions popping up in all four corners of the earth, the best thus far is the home wind energy.

How Do These Home Energy Turbines Work?

A home wind energy turbine is installed on top of a tall tower or prop at your home which collects kinetic energy (which is energy possessed by an object resulting from motion of that object) from the wind and converts it to electricity that is compatible with a home’s electrical system.

For normal home use, the home wind energy serves up simultaneously by the wind turbine  to a local convenience for the hose hold gear. If the wind speeds are below cut-in speed (7-10 mph) there will be no output from the turbine supplying home wind energy. The power purchased from the utility is all that is needed.

The output of the home wind energy turbine is enhanced as the speed of the wind increases, while the power output is decreased proportionately. When the home wind energy turbine produces more power than the house needs, the extra electricity is sold to the utility. This is all done automatically. There are no batteries in a modern home wind energy generator.

How Does The System Save Money?

The home wind energy turbine typically lowers your electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent, and has a potential to lower electric bills to a monthly average of $10 to $20 for the year. The amount of money a small home wind energy turbine saves you in the long run will depend upon its cost, the amount of electricity you use, the average wind speed at your site, and other factors.

Before the installation of a home wind energy system, here is what you should consider? If you own a home in an urban area, having a home wind energy system is most likely not feasible becuase of its size. With the exception of the very small home wind energy turbines, which requires a property size of approximately one acre or more.

The financial side of a home wind energy system is very sensitive to the average wind speed in the area, and to a lesser extent, the cost of purchasing electricity. As a general rule of thumb, at an average of 10 mph wind speed one will be paying about 10 cents/kWh for electricity. Home wind energy systems are quite common in a number of states.

The Environmental Impact Of Using A Home Wind Energy System

Home wind energy turbines produce no pollution. Over its life, a small home wind energy turbine can offset approximately 1.2 tons of air pollutants and 200 tons of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and other gases which cause climate change). And as a bonus, the home wind energy system does not require regular maintenance as they are generally designed to have a life span of 20 years

Should you then need to consider an earth friendly way to generate electricity at a small scale, you might need to consider this system.

As electricity generated by fossil fuel has become more pricy, alternative energy systems such as windmills for electricity and solar panels used for harnessing the sun’s energy, are becoming more common. With windmills, homes are is provided with clean and an unending supply of energy. Wind has always been of benefit to humanity in one form or another.

For some more really good articles with reference too windmills and how they work. take a look at: Find Out How Windmills Work

Wind energy wasused for the grinding of grain and pumping of water. It was also used by sea men for the sailing of ships. With windmills, it is very easy to convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy. Modern wind turbines today, can be used for the powering of our various household prices.

Long ago, windmills had to be erected in the exact site of their intended use. With the evolution of long distance electric power transmission, wind generators no longer are restricted with this requirement. In fact, most of the larger installations are currently established on wind farms, where wind intensity is optimised, as well as offshore stations capable of transmitting power across great distances through high voltage under-water power lines.

Modern windmills for electricity are also known as wind turbines or wind generators. The way in which they convert the wind’s power is simple. The blades of the turbine are spun by the touch of the wind and they in turn spin the shaft connected to them. By virtue of its spinning, the shaft is able to result in the creation of energy in a generator. Household appliances can be run with even the most simple of wind turbines. Mid size turbines—similar to the kind found in domestic sectors, can be applied very easily to the powering of many household appliances.

In some circles, solar energy is considered not as clean than wind energy. Nevertheless, solar power still represents one of the cleanest sources for the production of electricity and the two combined together form a wining power production duo .

Unsurprisingly, there have been a lot of evolved designs in the history of windmills. However, the most common of these are the vertical and horizontal axis turbines. The first one requires the use of turbines that spin on a horizontal axis with their main shafts placed parallel to the ground. The second one consists of turbines that spin on a vertical axis with their shafts perpendicular to the ground . Regular wind turbines today are made upof two or three blades.

Steel is the underlying material used in the building of wind turbines. The blades on the other hand, are manufactured with fibreglass . By assembling wind panels or solar panels in the comfort of your home, it is possible to get them for incredibly prices . This is possible with the assistane help of multiple DIY resources which are readily available. When it comes to the future of electricity—windmills are the vision. Thanks to them, we are able to enjoy the benefits of free electricity.

Wind Turbines are so effective, they can be applied to the powering of an entire country . A couple of countries like Spain and Denmark are actively working towards just that. Some areas record 70% population statistic rates amongst users of wind power technology Wind power has been estimated to be the sole provider of almost 70% of the individuals found in some regions.

With wind power running your home, you not only will get to save energy, you also will be fully independent. Windmills for electricity use provides an abundant source of energy that should be exploited wisely.

A Better Understanding of How Windmills Work

November 27, 2009 by admin

In order to get a better understanding of how windmills work, it should first be established that a windmill (also known as a wind turbine or a wind generator) is an instrument fuelled by wind which is used to convert kinetic energy from the wind into other forms of more effective energy, such as electricity. With the use of its sails/blades, a windmill is able to change kinetic energy into mechanical and finally electrical energy.

For another really good article, I would highly recommend. see: Using Wind Power At Home

Yet another benefit of using wind energy is the fact that its use can be finely distributed. It is also a 100 percent clean and provides zero negative emissions to the enviroment.

The use of windmills has long been in existence, with records which can be traced back hundreds of years, testifying of its use. In many ways the wind turbine can be considered as the younger cousin of the windmill. Today it is used in the creation of clean electricity. With the increase in demand for cleaner alternate sources of energy, the use of commercial and DIY windmills have increased greatly. Because Windmills are highly efficient and less prone to errors, a lot of people have come to appreciate the advantages of owning one. Hence, they seek to understand how windmills function, in order to better adapt them into their lives and communities.

The amount of power generated from a windmill is dependant on several factors some of which are as its size, its positioning, and the quantity of windmills employed. Wind farms are an excellent example of how effective wind turbines can be. These farms represent the green version of a conventional fossil fuel power plant. Nevertheless, single windmills can effectively power most of the electronic equipment in a household and represent a valuable money saving addition to any home. And with solar energy used alongside wind power methods, many individuals will be able to produce enough energy for the home.

Check out some more great articles regarding home wind power methods.  Find out just how possible it is to

produce energy of your own. see: Facts About Using Wind Power At Home

The fundamentals behind how windmills function are uncomplicated and vary slightly according to the type of windmill in question. Generally, most windmills function on pretty much the same principle. The blades of any windmill are the essential components that go about much of the work. For example, a wind turbine produces electricity through the following process; when the wind comes in contact with the propeller type blades, it automatically makes them rotate.

Energy is then produced as a result of this motion. The rotor transports this energy through the shaft to the generator. Windmill function in basically the same way give or take the slight differences. For the most part, the basics are the same. Without blades on a windmill, not very much would be achieved. The following gives a broad outline behind the principle guiding a wind turbine; The motion of the wind over the blades results in them automatically rotating. This

motion results in the generation of energy. The energy is then conveyed from the rotor through the shaft and transferred into the generator. The generator is the one that turns it into electrical power. The creation of electrical power through windmill is absolutely safe and thus environmentally friendly.

Wind turbines are created with mounted blades on a pole which comprise most of the windmill functioning. The length of the stand plays an important part in the windmill’s functioning since it permits the blades to be mounted at higher altitudes for better access to faster and less turbulent winds. Towers are sometimes set at heights of 100 meters. This height requirement generally calls for sturdier and improved bases. More power can be produced by using higher poles. Modern turbines range from a 100 kilowatts to as large as several megawatts.

The two most common types of wind turbines are defined by the kind of axis in which their turbines rotate. The horizontal axis variety is made of three blades which are aimed in the direction
of the wind. It is considered by many to be the most popular. Not as popular is the egg beater-shaped vertical axis wind turbine. This means that it stay effective, even when it is not aimed in the direction of the wind.Depending on the turbine you settle on, you will come to find that each variety carries its share of advantages and disadvantages . The application of wind turbines has increased greatly in use. Watching a wind turbine in action is a great way of learning how windmills work.

With all these, you will have been provided some insight into the way a windmill functions. After all, inexhasutable energy is the

energy of the future. Getting an effective and detailed guide will equip you with a firmer grasp on the topic of windmill usageand functioning.
